What are the system requirements for the program?
The program runs on Windows 7/8/10 and requires .Net Framework 4.6 (or later) installed.

Is there an interface and support in English?
Yes. However, our online documentation is only in English. But we also answer questions by mail in English.

What e-book formats are supported?
You can add a book of any format to Alpha.

The built-in reader supports all major popular formats (PDF, MOBI, EPUB, FB2, TXT, DJVU, CBR/CBZ). The audio player can play MP3 and M4B audiobooks.

Metadata extraction works for all the above formats, as well as AWZ (Kindle), LRF, CHM, AAX. You can edit metadata in PDF, MOBI, EPUB, FB2, MP3. The format converter works for PDF, MOBI, EPUB, FB2.

What information about a book can be stored in an electronic library?
The book card in Alpha contains many fields for various data about the book (from the number of pages to the cover). For each book, you can add several authors (with different roles), genres, tags. You can attach multiple files to one card.

You can also create your own (Custom) fields if the existing fields are not enough for you.

How many books can you add to Alpha?
The number of books is limited only by the power of your computer. For quick operation of the program, we recommend storing up to 20 thousand books in one database. If you have more books, you can create several databases and open them separately.

Can my books be imported into Alpha automatically?
Yes, the program has a Scan function that finds e-books on your computer, extracts metadata and covers from them, and adds these books to the e-library.

You can also automatically import a list of books from a CSV/Excel file, from an online Google Books account or from the Caliber book cataloguer.

Does the program change the location of my books on the computer?
No, your books stay where they are. The path to each book is written on the book card.

Also, Alpha has a built-in file manager, with which you can conveniently move and organize e-books into folders on your computer.

How to update information about a book from Litres, Books.ru and other sites?
Alpha has integration plugins for some book sites, incl. Litres and Books.ru. You can add books with covers and metadata from these sites using the “Add from the Internet” function.

The book card also has icons for updating data from the Internet by title and ISBN. In addition, there is a tool for mass updating books from the Internet using ISBN.

In Settings, you can choose which book data to update from websites.

How can I use the program with Kindle or other e-readers?
Alpha allows you to automatically add books from the e-reader to your digital library using Scan, edit their metadata and open them in a desktop viewer (except for DRM-protected books).

Also, you can conveniently transfer books from Alpha to an e-reader connected via USB (right-click on the selected books + Copy files…)

Is it possible to use the electronic library on a local network?
Yes, there are 2 ways to organize access to the library over a local network:

1. Web server. It allows you to browse your library, search and open books in a web reader in any browser. Even on mobile devices

2. Place the library and database on a network drive, and install Alpha on each computer. On each computer you need to connect a network drive as a local one (Map network drive).

Can I use an ISBN scanner to add paper books to Alpha?
Yes, you can use any ISBN scanner or iPhone/Android app that scans ISBNs and generates a list of ISBNs of scanned books. This list can be easily imported into Alpha using CSV import. You can then retrieve metadata and book covers from websites using Bulk Update from the Internet.
